Updating your server
Introduction
When Factorio releases an update you will see it become immediately available on your PC client. This is called “alpha”.
When the “alpha” version is updated it actually takes a bit of time to align with the “headless” version (this is your server version).

This guide applies to you if you run a Factorio server with us and you need to update your server.
Purpose
To teach you how to update your Factorio server so that your client version can join and to understand that not all updates come out instantly for servers.
Procedure
Take note of the latest version available by:

Notice the
alphaversion says something like2.0.60Now check the
headlessversion and see if it matches thealphaversion
Does the
alphaandheadlessversion not match? This means that the game developer has not yet released the latest version to theheadlessservers.You will have to be patient and check within a few hours, this is entirely out of our control. Game updates from Factorio take a bit of time to push to all channels.
Does the
alphaandheadlessversion match? This means that your game client and your server with us can be on the same version. You can proceed by updating your server by following below.To update your server, first you must stop it.

Next go to File Manager

Browse to the saves folder and download 1 copy of your
gamesave.zipand as a backup measure the_autosave1.zip
Make sure the files have downloaded to your computer
Next you want to reinstall the server by clicking on
Server Actionsfrom the sidebarOnce you are in the Server Actions page click on
Reinstall Server
You may need to refresh your page in 5 minutes, if it still hasn’t finished, give it 15 minutes or 30 minutes and so on. If you’re waiting for more than an hour please raise a support ticket for us to assist you.
With the server now reinstalled you can browse back to the saves folder using File Manager
Is your
gamesave.zipand_autosave1.zipstill appearing?Start your server and attempt to join your world.. if your data is missing or those folders are not in the File Manager’s
savefolder then please proceed with step b. below.
Is your
gamesave.zipand_autosave1.zipmissing or your world gone?Open your Downloads folder on your computer
Is your save over 1GB? Please use SFTP to reupload your save.
Drag and drop your saves into the
savesfolder, wait for the upload to complete
You should notice in the Console something like this once you start your server

This version that appears should match the latest found on this page under the “headless” tag.

Your server is now up to date according to what has been released by the game developer.
