Startup Parameters

About

Startup Parameters are extremely important for your instance on the Game Panel. Depending on the product you purchased you will see a varying degree as to what’s available to you.

These startup parameters are your main easy-to-change controls for the server. They can include:

  • Setting a password on a server

  • Setting a map on a server, difficulty or setting

  • Specifying a server version

  • Defining a server mod to load on startup

  • and much more.

Once you have these set, the instance uses these as the bigger part of your server’s startup arguments.

Features

Startup Command

The startup command is a read-only field that shows you what the server uses when you start the server. Some servers will use variables and rely on what parameters are defined below that startup command, other services, like Minecraft are much more simple in design.

Parameters

Parameters are used to tune and adjust the server to your wants and needs. Each product has its own unique parameters as they are game specific.

Parameter tooltip

The tooltips on parameters contain handy information that just doesn’t make sense to throw on a Docs page. Tooltips are a handy way to get quick, concise and in front of you information if/when you need it.

Saving a parameter

Saving a parameter is easy, you simply click the field you want to change and adjust it accordingly. There can be text fields and dropdown boxes.

For the parameter to save, simply “click away” from the box for it to indicate a saved state.

Read-Only parameters

Some parameters are ‘greyed-out’ and not user-editable. There are various factors for this but essentially boils down to:

  • An add-on or quote for additional cost is first required for that feature

  • An additional port allocation is required for the feature at no additional cost (i.e. RCON)

  • There are considerations around a setting change or value that may have consequences

  • Some feature or change that simply requires contacting support first before just going in and changing

In the case of RCON, not everyone uses this feature, so its wise to not waste our port allocations by assuming everyone wants this. If you’re ever unsure, please consult the parameter tooltip or simply reach out to support.
