How to disable backups

Summary

Project Zomboid is in early access and actively updated, so it's wise to back up servers before major updates. By default, automatic backups for Project Zomboid servers occur at server start and during version updates. While backups on server start can extend startup time, this feature can be disabled in the configuration if needed.

Disabling automatic backups will shorten load times, but it may increase the risk of data loss. To avoid losing important files, create local backups as needed using our complimentary self-service backup tool on our Game Panel, we recommend using it and the Schedule tool for automated backups.

Known issue(s)

Project Zomboid creates Backup on Server Start by copying its SaveData into Temp by default.

These files can get so large that your server may fail on startup with error: java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: java.io.IOException: No space left on device.

Disable Backups in the Project Zomboid Server Settings via BackupsOnStart=false and delete the backup data it has created in File Manager.

How to disable backups

1) Log in to the Delta Networks Game panel.

2) Stop the server if it is running.

3) Go to File Manager.
