Changing your game difficulty
Introduction
This document will show you how to adjust your server’s game difficulty and in addition, rebuild your save in order to ‘set’ that difficulty.
Reading time: 5min
Prerequisites / Disclaimers
Your world on first deployment is by default set to 0 (normal), you need to delete this save in order for your world to regenerate (or change the name).
You can’t change your server’s difficulty for a world that has already been generated. You need to start again if you wish to modify the difficulty half-way through.
Purpose
To adjust your game difficulty and reflect this change on your new save also.
Procedure
After purchasing or reinstalling your Terraria server, if you wish to play on a difficulty other than 0 (normal) such as:
1 (expert)
2 (master)
3 (journey)
You will need to adjust your server as it starts off as 0 (normal) by default.
Access your server via our Game Panel.
Stop your server
Using the Left Sidebar > Startup Parameters

Using the GIF above, you click the dropdown and select the difficulty you are seeking, once done, click in a blank space to save the changes
Failure to perform the below will mean your server is correctly set on the difficulty you want, but your world won’t be.
Now your server is set on the correct difficulty, however we must regenerate the world (save) so that it is ‘set’ to the new difficulty.
Go to Management > File Manager > Saves

This will destroy your save data for your world! You have been warned!
Back up your server now if you wish to reuse it later (on your original difficulty).
Using the above GIF as a guide, you delete the world the server had generated on the different difficulty.
Now start your server and let it regenerate a new world, this will create the new world, on the new difficulty you have set. ⭐
