Backups
About
The backups page is our one stop shop for your own self-service backups.
Creating a new backup will stop the server if it's already running.
You can create a backup by clicking ‘Create’, additionally you can use the ‘Schedules’ page to automatically schedule backups too.
Features
Create your backup
To create your backup, first stop your server. Then click the Backups page and then clicking on ‘Create’.

Creating a backup for your server
Once the backup is complete you will be able to access the server page once again and the notice will go away. You can confirm the backup job by going into the ‘Audit Logs’ page.

Deploy
To restore from a backup you simpy visit the same ‘Backups’ page and then click the Deploy button on the backup you prefer. When you click this button, your server essentially takes all of these files from the backup and automatically puts them into your server directory, if a file already exists it is overwritten.
If you have multiple backups created, you will see a list of them in the table.

Once you click deploy your server will take you to a Restoration in progress page. Please be patient and once it has completed you will be able to access your server once more. - There will be an audit log also noting the restore job.
Download
The download button once clicked will fetch a .tar.gz file of your server at that snapshot in time. You can use this for whatever purpose once downloaded.

Automate your backup
Automating your backups is worry-free. When the system runs your scheduled task it “cycles” the backup if you are at your maximum allocation. So you don’t run out of backup allocation or run into automatic backup breakdowns. (So that they keep on running)
Automating your backup is fully supported and can be easily setup using our Schedules system.
This is done on another page however and you can follow that procedure by clicking here to jump to that page.
Key points about backup automation
When you setup your schedule, then create the task “Create a backup”, the system will refresh your current backup you have (if you have one), over and over.
E.g. If I have an hourly backup setup, each hour the previous backup is replaced with a new one. This is to save you space and reduce complexity.
If you don’t want a particular backup replaced, you can “lock” your backup or “unlock” it (if it’s already locked).
E.g.

This example shows two locked backups with the option to unlock
Storage space and your backups
Your backups have their own allocated storage space. Our team have designed this to be as close to worry-free as possible. Meaning a certain server you have choosen will have the storage it requires for about 1 or 2 backups in normal occasions.
Running out of backup space
As mentioned above, you are only allocated so much space for backups to ensure everyone gets a fair go and can use the complimentary service as they please. If you try to create a backup but are met with an error, we recommend reaching out to support and discuss getting a backup storage upgrade for a small increase on your bill.

Getting more backup space
In some scenarios you might like to have many snapshots of your server for historical or restoration purposes. In order to have this facilitated kindly reach out to our team and we can quote you an add-on for extra space charged at cents per GB. This storage upgrade would just bolt-on to your invoice.
